A happy, healthy gut is a very important key to a healthy, functioning immune system and body. Over seventy percent (you heard that right, seventy percent!) of your immune system is located in your gut. When you have a compromised gut lining, caused by years of a poor diet, medications, excessive alcohol consumption and stress, it can cause many unpleasant symptoms. Because each person is genetically different, the symptoms with vary from person to person. Here is a small list of the most common symptoms:

Fatigue

Weight Gain

Weight loss

Constant illnesses like colds, bronchitis, flu etc..

IBS

Achy joints

Nausea

Anxiety

Depression

Sleep issues

Headaches

As you can see, the symptoms can be all over the place. Your body is trying to tell you that things aren't right. These symptoms can be very uncomfortable and really effect your quality of life over the long term. Sometimes getting to the point where your symptoms are completely debilitating, when left unresolved. Doctors will prescribe acid reducers, anti nausea medications, anxiety medications, NSAIDS (Ibuprofen, Aleve, Mortin) and others. But these medications are only meant to be temporary fixes and only cover up the symptoms. Often these medications have negative effects on your body, making everything worse!  It is important to get to the root cause of your symptoms, if you truly want to feel better long term. The best place to start is by fixing your gut health.  Learning how to eat in a way that is beneficial for your body. Feeding your gut the beneficial things it needs to be happy and healthy.

Daily stress is also a factor with gut health that many people overlook. Most of the time it is because people do not know or understand the negative effect stress has on your gut health and how it affects the body as a whole. It is just as important to address your stress levels as well as dietary factors, to bring your gut back to a healthy state. By addressing the stressful things in your life and working to find ways to cope, it will help you in your journey to be a happier and healthier version of yourself. At the same time, alleviating the effects of stress on your gut.

Another layer to gut issues, is that many people suffer from gluten intolerance or sensitivity. I am diagnosed Non Celiac Gluten Sensitive (NCGS). I was diagnosed just over five years ago. I am well versed in a gluten free diet and lifestyle. Yes, a gluten free lifestyle can be achieved in a healthy way. Many people are sensitive to gluten, as the grains we eat today are nothing like the original grains that were grown over 10,000 years ago. They have been modified thousands of times at a cellular level, into what they are today. Take for example wheat, one of the most common grains that is consumed today. It has been genetically modified over the years to resist bugs! So it really isn't a big surprise that so many people are reacting negatively to so many grains today. Gluten sensitivity and Celiac disease have increased in great numbers over the last 10-20 years. The scary part is many people have these conditions and don't realize it. Doctors diagnose them with things like IBS, Crohns, etc... Not realizing that it could actually be a gluten intolerance or even Celiac disease. Both are issues that people can live with and be happy and healthy. There is no need to suffer unnecessarily with symptoms. I can help those of you that may be suffering with these issues, by discovering safe and healthy foods that work for your body and alleviate the symptoms.
